faq

Am I eligible for accommodation at UNSW Village?

All UNSW students are eligible to apply for accommodation at UNSW Village, including research assistants and full-time, part-time, undergraduate and postgraduate students.

Are pets allowed?

No pets, including fish, may be kept in the Village. Additionally, residents are not permitted to bring animals into any building of the Village. This Rule does not apply to the extent that it restricts the keeping of a guide or hearing dog.

Are priorities given to particular students?

The Village hosts a diverse range of residents from all over the world and across Australia, and we see this as a true strength of our community. To ensure fairness, we don't give preference to any group over others. Therefore we encourage all applicants to submit the relevant forms as early as possible to avoid disappointment.

Can I choose my flatmates?

If you'd like to share an apartment with a friend, please specify this on your application form. Given our high demand, we can't guarantee to fulfill all requests, but we'll definitely try our best to accommodate you.

The earlier you and your friend apply, the easier it is for us to assign you to the same apartment.

Can my partner live with me?

Spouses, partners, boyfriends or girlfriends can apply for accommodation at UNSW Village, as long as they are students at UNSW. Couples will be provided with individual rooms, however you can request to be allocated rooms in the same apartment. One bedroom apartments are single occupancy only.

Do you provide a cleaning service?

All residents are responsible for keeping their rooms and apartments clean. A cleaning service can be organised for a fee. Please enquire at Reception.

Do you provide internet access?

Broadband connectivity is available in every bedroom at the Village. Internet packages can be organised through our internet provider, AccessPlus. See fees for more information on packages.

We also have an e-library with computers and laptop connectivity where you can access the internet using your Village AccessPlus logon details.

How close is UNSW Village to the University and the CBD?

UNSW Village is located on High Street, right on the main Kensington campus. It takes approximately five minutes to walk to the main courtyard and just two minutes to walk to the UNSW Sport and Recreation Centre.

Regular buses from Anzac Parade will take you directly to the city in 20 minutes.

How is UNSW Village different to a college?

UNSW Village offers a self-catered, apartment-style living experience with no religious affiliations, traditions, hierarchies or set meal times. This means you have the freedom to do what you want, when you want (within reason of course)!

While we do offer an independent lifestyle, we ensure support is available 24 hours a day, along with a range of exciting events and activities to help you meet new people and learn new skills.

In short, we offer a fantastic balance between support and independence that you just won't find anywhere else!

How long are your residential agreements?

UNSW Village runs on a 52 week residential agreement much like private rental accommodation in the area. This allows residents constant access to rooms and facilities mid year and throughout the summer period. It means that you dont have to spend time and money moving and is especially convenient if you want to stay in the same room next year (subject to UNSW Village offering you a room).

If you choose to go away for the summer holiday, you can always put your room in the letting pool and we'll endeavour to secure you a fee rebate by renting it to conference guests and other visitors. Read the Information Memorandum for further details.

Is catering available?

UNSW Village doesn't provide catering, but healthy meals and a selection of groceries can be purchased from the on-site convenience store and café.

Each apartment has a full kitchen including a fridge, stovetop and microwave, so feel free to cook up a storm or throw together a quick meal at any time of day. If you need some tips, join one of our cooking classes! Check out our event calendar to see if one is coming up.

If you're in the mood to eat out, we're just minutes from Anzac Parade's array of shops and restaurants.

What do I need to buy/bring?

All residents need to supply their own:

  • Bed linen, quilts/blankets and pillows (king single linen for studio and multi-share apartments, double linen for one bedroom apartments)
  • Towels and tea towels
  • Cooking equipment, crockery, cutlery, glasses, cooking utensils
  • Laundry detergent and dish washing detergent
  • Iron, ironing board and air dryer for clothes (optional)
  • Small padlock for lockable drawer in your room
  • Cleaning supplies
  • Regulation heaters for winter (please ask us about what types of heaters are permitted)
  • Meals
